Unfortunately, I’ve not a lot of direct experience in speaking British and Americans English, except different vocabulary I’ve studied during my all learning English.

I’ve been studied with a Scottish teacher ever, with the exception of my first courses at the British Council in Milan. I’m really shy, as you know, and I try always to avoid speaking in English, on the contrary I enjoy reading in English and watching a lot of series, mainly/for the most part the American ones (clearly with subtitles, otherwise too diffucult to undestand for my level…); with the exception of some series with very strong Scottish accent, which is really difficult to get used to or others with different accents from UK I don’t remember now…

The easiest one to understand/catch is The Crown: my favourite also because dialogues are quite slow, compared to the American ones where caracters speak usually very quickly, with a lot of slang, even though they are almost repetitive in vocabulary and expressions.

I’m starting getting used to differences between British accent and the American one, due to the Series, while I find equally interesting reading both American and British English, even though recognising words and expressions from American and British English is not easy.

Hi Vale, I think watching TV series is really one of the best ways to improve comprehension and pick up new words and expressions – and as you say, to start to hear differences between US and UK English. I think it’s fascinating!

I agree that The Crown is good for studying: the dialogues are slow and the English is ‘standard’. Keep it up!

Can you try and make some corrections here:

    1. I’ve not a lot of … >

    2. I’ve been studied … >

    3. I’m starting getting used to … >

    ps. Spelling: characters
