My checklist!

Strategies to use to improve my understanding of natural speech in conversation:

– Try to focus only on the words that are meaningful and ignore all the words that disrupt my attention

– Interrupt a person when I don’t understand and tell them. (Don’t be afraid to let the person know I’m not following) Sorry, I’m not following… etc

– Ask for clarification when I need to check something I’m not sure about – So, if I’ve understood correctly, …..

– When I don’t understand a specific detail, use a question word so they don’t repeat the whole thing (Sorry, what? How much? When? How long? Where? Who?)

-Rephrase in my own words what I think I have understood

-Ask for the meaning of specific words if I don’t know the word
