Is binge-watching a harmless or helpful activity?

“Binge” has a negative meaning, it is often associated with uncontrolled and frenzy behaviour in drinking or eating. Therefore, binge-watching seems a harmful activity, leading people to spend hours and hours watching TV series, incapable of stopping it. That could make you addictive and cut your social relationships progressively.

Actually, binge-watching is not harmful or helpful by itself. Watching hours of TV series on the sitting once in a while can help you relax, in particular after a hard work day. Moreover, it is not granted that binge-watching leads you far away from social life. I know a few people, fond of TV series, who gather in front of TV to watch episodes back-to-back, sharing impressions and doing comments on plot and characters.

    Indeed, what is
important is to spend one’s time in the best way, trying to keep a balance
among activities in daytime. Only when you lose the awareness and the control
of your time, get sucked into activities just to fill in empty holes, then can
binge-watching become harmful and wasting-time activity

    Good work @roberto

I like the idea that you put forward about ‘binge’ having negative connotations, very true. Nice use of vocabulary and clear and concise argument.

    Notes:

    > addictive – something is addictive v addicted – to be addicted to

That could make you addicted …

    > Moreover, it is not granted that binge-watching leads you far away from social life. – this sounds better like this: Moreover, it is not taken for granted that binge-watching leads you far away from social life.

Granted as an adjective means “given,” and it usually follows “take for” or “taken for.”

    > sharing impressions and doing comments on plot and characters. – sharing ideas/opinions and MAKING comments on plot and characters.

to make a comment – collocation

    > last phrase: become harmful and wasting-time activity – become A harmful and time-wasting activity

    👍
