ART
I love any kind of artistic expression, literature, cinematography, dance, music, and visual art. Wherever I live, wherever I travel to, I love going to museums and exhibitions, and even though I don’t always appreciate some of the contemporary art expressions or performances, it teaches me something about the world we live in.
I have a predilection for the impressionists and expressionists artists, and I am not a fan of religious art with all its drama, so I tend to skip that period when visiting a museum.
I have been volunteering for the last four years at the Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami, guiding children from public schools through the galleries. Every week I lead groups of twelve to fourteen children, most of whom have never been to a museum. The excitement they show is the best reward I get from the visits. I particularly enjoy the way children look at art, with a mixture of awe and curiosity, so instead of me doing the talking, I listen to their comments and how they build an understanding from listening to one another.
I think that art is extremely important for society, creativity is what makes us transcend and overcome the indignities of human history. Art and Nature are what makes life enjoyable and beautiful.
Unfortunately, I am not an artistic person, I can only appreciate, not create art.
I have many favorite artists; it is difficult to pick just one. I love Turner, Sargent, Hopper, Sorolla, Van Gogh, Matisse, Vermeer, Tamayo, Henri Moore, Brancusi, Kandinsky, Renoir, Schiele, Vlaminck, and I could go on and on!
