Binge-watching & TV series – Essay A
Binge watching is an activity always more spread, thanks to streaming platforms. It consists of watching sequentially TV shows’ episodes for a long period of time, usually some hours. This phenomena is nudged from shows’ creators. In fact, the last productions are written to make the audience immediately crave the next episode, combining cliffhangers and stunning happenings.
Obviously, spending your days or, in general, all your free time in front of a screen is not healthy and can create damages to your social life and your mental and physical wellness. In a similar extreme case, the binge watching becomes a form of addiction like many others.
After this premise, let be honest: binge watching can be relaxing and funny, and can originate interesting discussions. If it is true that some productions are light ones, with a horrible writing, others involve important issues of the contemporary life or give a different view of historical events. Among the others, I can mention ‘Dear white people’ and ‘The handmaid’s tale’. These two shows have different backgrounds, themes and tones but they face racism, discriminations, awareness and so much more!
However, it is undeniable that often people search in Tv shows for evasion. Is it so wrong? I do not think so. I truly believe that, after a stressful day, arriving at home and watching a TV show for two or three hours to relax, it is not something to be ashamed of.
The problem is not to binge watch now and again, but making it the activity where all your free moments gravitate towards.
