  • Do you like art?

I like art even though I don´t know much about it. I see a paiting and I admire it or I despise it. I don´t like the snobbery around art. You know, those “cognoscenti” who can talk for hours about something, giving you different intrepretations and you just see a “red line”. Well, I like paitings or any form or art that moves me. Take for instance the “Pietá”. You can see the pleats in ther clothes, her sadness and Christ´s body lying on her lap. It´s marble but it looks like a dead person to you. Paintings such as the “Guernica” or “Timeless Watches” they all invite you to think and discuss something.

It´s also important to keep an open mind and be willing to learn. You´ve mentioned Frida and I must say I´ve never been a fan of hers but after reading about her life and how much she suffered during her lifetime you learn to appreciate why she painted the way she did. She express herself and she did it the only way she could.

“There is no accounting for taste” and “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” important to me when it comes into what is nice and what is not.

I think we are on the same page about this! A red line is a red line! And this: “There is no accounting for taste” and “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” important to me when it comes into what is nice and what is not. Spot on!

Once when I was 15, I went to Paris with my mum and dad. We visited the Louvre and many museums but when we got to the Pompidou centre (which is full of contemporary art) I had a bit of a teenage tantrum! I was so fed up with being dragged around and I honestly couldn’t see anything but pretentious faff! Even though my mum was cross with me at the time, she admitted that she thought the same. Now when we want to say something is crap in our family, we say it is pompidou!😂
