Television has a relevant impact in our society. The main uses of television are depending on age, intellectual level, and gender. People with low intellectual level tend to watch series an entertainment, while high intellectual people tend to watch sports, news, and current affairs.

TV programs need to satisfy all genders, ages, and ideologies. Usually, each time of the day is lead to a determined group of people. Differences in ideology can be detected in different channels so people can choose what they want to hear. This, added to the fact that TV deliver easy concepts so everybody can understand, makes people comfortably swallow contents with an absolute lack of critical thinking, ignoring meanings or implications.

Entertainment programs are far from offering high quality contents. For some unknown reason, “reality shows” showing the most intimate part of people, highlighting the poorest characteristics, and using limited or rude language seems to become the funniest sort of entertainment. This type of behavior becomes socially admitted.

Based on images, TV is so obsessed with beauty. Advertisements, films, presenters… are all carefully chosen to be nice and slim. Kids and teenagers are the most vulnerable to these strict rules of appearance, occasionally degenerating in a wrong perception of themselves, developing psychological problems.

From my point of view, TV is a powerful weapon that could positively support culture and diversity but in fact, is used to promote stereotypes and create a one-track mind population.

Well done on this task Mónica. I agree with what you say about images and how it could be used as a tool for good instead of ‘evil’!

Your essay is well structured, coherent and fluid. You’ve used some nice vocab in there too:

    Notes:

1> The main uses of television are depending on age …. here you should use the present simple: The main uses of television depends on age … (because this is an opinion/fact. It’s not about time)

2> contents – content is usually uncountable (I like this page as it gives a quick summary of the grammar and it has a nice word list) https://ieltsliz.com/uncountable-nouns-word-list/

    Suggestions:

Another way to say low/high intellectual level – less/more cultured/educated. Low intellectual level – ignorant, uneducated, unread, uncultivated
