    “Guernica” by Picasso

Suffice it to say this painting is a well-known masterpiece. I chose it because I like it very much even though I don’t think I´d have it in my living-room. It’s far too sad and depressing to look at every day.

My overall opinion regarding the colour is that although the painting looks monochromatic its palette contains colours such as black, grey, blue and white. The colours clash in order to have that sense of brutality and horror Picasso intended and the main elements are illuminated and thus draw your attention to them. The choice of colour is intended to cause intensity, which is successfully accomplished.

Regarding the composition, there are too many elements and though they seem to overlap and look chaotic they are arranged strategically. There´s is chaoes everywhere and so was there after the bombing.

The mood and atmosphere I´d say it´s horror and despair but there’s a little hope as well as some elements such as the light, the flower and the dove suggest.

Looking at this painting I feel moved, thoughful , a little annoyed and totally sad.

I think this paiting is suggestive, profound, meaningful and thought provling.

I could sit in front of it and observe it for a while trying to pay attention to every element and the part they play in the whole context.

@Carly this is beautifully written and I love what you say about the colours and the sense of brutality and horror.

    notes:

    >There´s is chaoes everywhere and so was there after the bombing > i suggest this order to make it sound more natural: There is chaos everywhere, just as there was after the bombing. Or, Just as there was after the bombing, there is chaos everywhere.

    >thought provling (probably a typo!) – thought provoking

    > I like this sentence: Looking at this painting I feel moved, thoughtful , a little annoyed and totally sad. Just for practice, can you come up with any synonyms for ‘totally sad’? 🌸

Synonyms for “totally sad”: utterly miserable

;completely unhappy; fully sorrowful . I´m not sure “completely, fully, utterly” can replace totally.

Thanks for your feedback I really appreciate it.

    👍😉

(yes, for example: “I flew home yesterday. Utterly sad to be leaving.”)
