This is not going to be a run-off-the-mill story.

Charlie was a self-effacing waiter at a Michelin-star restaurant in London. But his life didn’t use to be tickety-boo.

He grew up in a dodgy neigbourhood where nobody used Queen’s English. So, when Charlie wanted to find a job in the city center, he had always failed at the job interviews.

’Why would you like to work for our company?’ asked the intreviewer.

’Well, mate, my life is a fuff, I’m always broke, I don’t even have a fiver at the end of the month, I can’t even buy a bog roll, my girlfriend is up the duff, the lady-next-door is a curtain twitcher, living there is bloody awful…’

Charlie went on and on, and he never got the job, because the interviewers could not get a word of his goobledygook.

But once he was jammy. He was at a pub getting pissed, when he started a conversation with a man who was actually a speech and language therapist looking for a client for his experiments. He started giving lessons to Charlie, and his English had improved rapidly in a month. At his next job intervew he was able to speak using sophisticated vocabulary, so he got a job at one of London’s most posh restaurants, Angler.

Bollocks! Horses for courses! I’d rather be a waiter at The Wigmore!

This is brilliant! 🤩 I love how creative and funny your story is! You really made me laugh with some of the slang expressions you used. It’s also great to see how naturally you wove them into the story, which shows real progress. You’ve clearly picked up so much from this lesson, fantastic work!
