I think we are on the same page about this! A red line is a red line! And this: “There is no accounting for taste” and “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” important to me when it comes into what is nice and what is not. Spot on!

Once when I was 15, I went to Paris with my mum and dad. We visited the Louvre and many museums but when we got to the Pompidou centre (which is full of contemporary art) I had a bit of a teenage tantrum! I was so fed up with being dragged around and I honestly couldn’t see anything but pretentious faff! Even though my mum was cross with me at the time, she admitted that she thought the same. Now when we want to say something is crap in our family, we say it is pompidou!😂

I 100% agree with you Paolo!

NB: to be afraid – My opinion is that some persons don’t want to change because they ARE afraid

    life, lives (noun)

    live (verb)

Oh dear. Do you know how many times that has happened to Enri and I? it is like an illness for us!

This is great Vale – tenses are excellent and I really enjoyed reading it.

Just a few things to tell you, but not to do with the grammar 👍

    > we spent almost the all weekend/all the weekend – you can use both

    > I put my hands into the bag to LOOK for my credit card TO PAY (delete-at) the toll booth, when I thought of CHECKING IF I HAD the HOUSE (not-house’s) keys… Suddenly, I realised that I hadn’t checked IF I HAD them before leaving the house in Milan…

    >I realised that I hadn’t took – taken

    > you can saywe spent all the weekend/ or all weekend end driving.

👏👏👏 this is so good Vale! Love it!

Instead of “On” the parterre you could say “From” (Also in UK we would say the stalls, but parterre is used in the US, so it’s not wrong!)

Only her got the sense of the play. > Only she …..

I know what you mean – TV series is an escape from reality and honestly in the evening sometimes I am so tired, it is all I am capable of! Even if I would prefer to read a book, TV is easier and I am lazy. I’ve not seen Ministry of Time although I did watch a Spanish show recently about bank robbers – it was a little ridiculous, but I did enjoy it. I forget the name.

I liked the first season of Luther, but it became too gory for me as it went on. I also remember watching it with my mum once when I was visiting and she kept complaining about all the blood, but when I suggested switching it off, she wouldn’t😂

Some notes; good job! Interesting vocab 👍 and fluent. Two points –

    > I never liked too much watching TV – to make this sound more natural, switch the word order: I never liked watching TV too much OR I never liked watching TV THAT much

    > travel back and forwards on the time – in time

Ahaha! Yes, that’s the problem with binge watching – marmalade brains! I too cannot think how you could say the same thing in Italian … 🤔🤔🤔

Anyway, below are a few notes. (Blue ticks are for things I really like!) As promised, sending you relevant grammar links too. If anything is unclear, give me a shout.

Beautifully put Adriana. I too am trying very hard to live in the present and be mindful. It is maybe one good thing that has come out of this period!

    Hello Vale,

    Good job!!!!

    A few notes:

no.1 > I’VE ALSO DONE COUNTLESS try/attempt to memorize new vocabulary with miserable/louzy result.

Here you have to use MADE because of the collocation with ‘attempt’ (make an attempt)

and attempt must become plural because it is ‘many’

I’VE ALSO MADE COUNTLESS attempts to memorise new vocabulary with miserable/lousy result.

PS *Try is not a noun and *lousy with an ‘s’ not z

no.3 > true is an adjective. What is the correct word?

no.6 > I wasn’t THE BRIGHTEST CRAYON IN THE BOX choosing my job. Brilliant! This made me LOL!!!

no.10 > -It is completely BAFFLING that my boss’s daughter is really welthy, but she is a completely TIGHT ARSE. It makes me have HIVES. She’s always GRUMBLING about money and she’s LINGER ON.

EXCELLENT effort Vale. I love this! So, compare:

-It is completely BAFFLING that my boss’s daughter is really wealthy, but she is a complete TIGHT ARSE. It makes me have HIVES. She’s always GRUMBLING about money and she LINGERS ON.

    Got it?!

No.11 > murder is the verb. Can you correct it?

No.12> He made such a HOWLER that he set everybody off.

    > Can you change the collocation?

    > Here you need to say: … what a difficult job teaching is or how difficult teaching is

    > Can you try and fix this phrase? (Think about the word order of ‘so much’ and the agreement with ‘enjoy’!)

    Have a go!

Oh, I totally agree – being sensitive is a huge part. I have always loved that part of the job, but it can be challenging dealing with this in group dynamics! I had forgotten that you taught as well!

Morning Sonia! Thank you for your thoughts about this topic, it’s interesting to learn about everyone’s experiences and I enjoy your storytelling and use of vocabulary – nice!

Actually some of the words and expressions you are using are TOP! (scads of Rookie mistakes, coarse, stems from, refute … TOP TOP TOP!)

    Some notes:

    > Except for a few private lessons taken by an Italian lady … this sounds like the Italian lady did the lessons as the student. So you took the lessons, she gave them:

Except for a few private lessons from an Italian lady OR Except for a few private lessons taught by an Italian lady

I want to give you some pointers to make things sound even more natural:

    > I feel British English more familiar, – British English feels more familiar to me

    > I think that a whole life would not be enough – I think that a whole lifetime would not be enough

    Please correct:

At school I have always studied French!

@Carly Spot on! I find we are very much on the same page on this topic! Interestingly, a row has broken out on this topic between two teachers who both have a Youtube channel. I’ll try and find the link as it makes for interesting viewing…. One of them attacks the other because she is always banging on about RP … it’s quite amusing, even if I felt rather sorry for the one being attacked!

Anyway, I liked your description about a young you getting in trouble from your teacher! Makes me think of my French class! And am positively giddy that someone is appreciative of the rolling RRRRRRs!!!!

    Quick note:

you need a preposition here: I have never been discriminated against

English, French, Spanish etc needs a capital letter

    👍🌸
